Arzach is a comic book collection of four wordless short stories by artist/author Jean ‘Moebius’ Giraud, which were originally published in the French sci-fi/fantasy comics magazine Métal Hurlant in 1975. The stories follow Arzach, a silent warrior who rides a pterodactyl-like creature through a strange, desolate landscape. The imagery and situations in Arzach are often compared to dreams or the subconscious. These stories had an enormous impact on the French/Japanese comics industry, and the Arzach character is still among Moebius’ most famous creations.
I picked up this 50th Anniversary edition at the French comic bookstore Maison Petit Renard while I was in Tokyo earlier this spring.
Tumbled right down the rabbit hole at the excellent @m_petitrenard bookstore in Itabashi and bought 3 posters + Moebius’ Arzach ( 50th anniv edition ). Definitely drop by if you’re in Tokyo. Thanks again to @nemuridino for the shop rec. pic.twitter.com/eoflBukCVU

Not many comic artists can claim the title of ‘legendary’, but Moebius certainly was one of them; his artistic influence is sweeping and has inspired so many of the manga greats, including Hayao Miyazaki, Otomo Katsuhiro, Katsuya Terada and Yukito Kishiro, just to name a few.

(above & below) The book comes with a black slip-case cover with the title stenciled on the front.

One of Moebius’ most important and seminal work, this beautiful 50th anniversary hardcover is a must have for fans of the artist. Highly recommended.
