Maison Petit Renard - Tokyo Spring Trip 2023

Maison Petit Renard is a lovely little comic store located in the Itabashi area of Tokyo specializing in French comics ( bande dessinée / バンド・デシネ ), run by Thibaud Desbief and his wife Shiori. Thibaud is a professional French/Japanese translator and has translated a good many manga titles including Levius, All You Need Is Kill and several of Taiyo Matsumoto’s works.

It was actually my first time visiting the store, and I was introduced to its existence by Mr Tsukui Tou, a fellow AKIRA fan and designer/artist whom I got to know on twitter. Thank you for recommending me to such a fine establishment !

Despite the store’s relatively diminutive size, it punches way above it’s weight in terms of the quality and quantity of French art books and comics it carries; I kid you not when I say I wanted almost every book I saw in there.

(above & below) As I mentioned above, the store carries a really fantastic collection. What is even more fantastic is that almost all the titles are available for browsing, which is infinitely crucial when deliberating on whether one should part with their hard-earned money that one ( or many ) good book/s.

(above & below) As it was near the end of my time in Tokyo, I had absolutely no more luggage space for heavy art books, but I simply could not resist picking up 2 Moebius posters. I wish I could have gotten the entire set !
