Spring in Tokyo, and pretty Cherry Blossoms.

Posted By yonghow on April 4th, 2009

Some pictures of pretty pink Cherry Blossoms I took last weekend at a Hanami party in Shinjuku Gyoen, Tokyo. I can’t believe this will be my 6th Spring in Japan. How they go by in a blink !

(above) Even the ground is awash with the vibrant colors of Spring. (bel0w) Other flowers are out in full force too.

(below) The skyscraper in the background is the NTT Docomo building, one of the more easily identifiable landmarks in Shinjuku.

Did you guys catch the Cherry Blossoms the last time you were in Japan ? I heard there are Cherry Blossoms in Washington D.C too.

Nice shots. Would you by any chance provide high-res photos of these? Will look great as wallpaper, I think.

Shagure

Those are some beautiful pictures! *o*
There aren’t many beautiful flowering trees around where I live, but I did see some shots of the trees in Washington DC. They’re really nice too. ๐Ÿ˜€

I used to have some weeping cherry trees at the front of the house. Spring time was really nice with the front porch covered in pink petals. I’ll post a picture if I can find any.

Otto

Next time I head back over there will be in the Spring time. Going during Winter time isn’t that pretty.

My friend has a Cherry Blossom tree right in front of his house. It sticks out because it’s the only one in the entire block. But before you know it, all the petals just fall off and makes his car pink.

[in extreme jealous mode now]
why, oh why, can’t we have such beauties here?

not very fond of the trees themselves, but the blossoms are absolutely delightful

Su

Yes, they have some in DC, and I found out that they have even nicer Cherry Blossoms at the Brooklyn Gardens (NY).

Those here are just starting to bloom and I heard it is uaully swarmed with people trying to pose by the trunks on nice weekends.

Kenny – Thanks ! I haven’t though about wallpapers, didn’t think they were good enough to be…

Shagure/Su – Love to see some pictures of the Sakuras over in the states ! :]

TDD – Weeping Cherry trees sound a little sad, but yes, please show me pictures if you have. :]

Otto – Guess you’ll be in for a treat !

Lynn – Haha, perhaps you should come visit soon, like Otto ?

Helen – I think the Sakura trees aren’t particularly eye catching unless in Spring time. The leaves of the Momiji ( Japanese Maple ) are much prettier.

I currently in Tokyo chasing the sakura till the 9th. After days of photo taking, I realised that macro/landscape is not my forte. ๐Ÿ™

So I stck to streets/abstracts.

MrMayat – Enjoy the sights ! Hope to see the pictures you’ve taken on your blog soon ! :]

I love this time of the year, I’m not such a good photographer myself but I really enjoy good hanami pictures — like yours! =) Unfortunately it’s almost over ๐Ÿ™

:] Thanks for the kind words ! Now that the bloom season is over I’m looking forward to the autumn leaves next !
