I purchased this book quite a while back but I never got around to reviewing it because I’ve not had the chance of playing the game ( not until very recently ) and I want to have context and a good understanding of what I’m actually reviewing.
Horizon Zero Dawn is a highly acclaimed action role playing game developed by Guerrilla Studios, and hands down one of the best games I’ve played in recent years. Admittedly I had difficulty getting used to the playing style after coming off the equally amazing God Of War ( read my review for the art book ), but once I did it was epic.
This art book from Titan Books delve into the gorgeous concept art created during the development of the game, with over over 300 images, sketches, concept art and commentary throughout from the artists and creators.
(image below) Renowned character designer Loish was also involved in the designs of the game character Aloy.
(above right) The heavily armored Oseram outfits quickly reminds me of the Torumekian warriors from Miyazaki Hayao’s Nausicaa Of The Valley Of Wind.
I’ve only just recently completed the main game of Horizon Zero Dawn and am playing the DLC Frozen Wilds, which is equally good. Some of the biggest highlights of the game are the stunning costume designs, the beautiful environment and also the machine designs; the concept art for these are well explored and showcased in this fantastic book. Highly recommended.

A fantastic book–I bought it after playing through a good chunk of the game. It really is one of the best games for the PS4–heck, it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played, period. I have to hand it to Guerrilla for creating this game after their acclaimed KILLZONE games.

Marc – Much agreed. I’m very impressed with what Guerrilla Games created here, and I really look forward to the sequel for the game.
