Pieces Gem 02 – Neuro Hard ( Planet Of The Bees ) is an unfinished manga series by Ghost In The Shell/Appleseed creator Masamune Shirow. Parts of the series were published sporadically in the comics magazine Comics Dragon from 1992-1994, and now collected in this hard cover volume ( first published in 2015 ).
Fans of Shirow’s work will immediately pick up the likeness in style and treatment to other works produced during that time ( early to mid 90s ), namely Orion and Intron Depot, which I love the most. The art work is immensely detailed ( shaded painstakingly using screentones instead of digital work ), choked full of interesting annotations and most importantly of all, beautifully illustrated.
A nostalgic visit what I feel is Masamune Shirow’s most successfully period of creation ( early 90s ), much similar to Orion and Intron Depot. Highly recommended for fans of his art work.

Dude, you’re torturing me. I’ve been dying for Shirow to create some new “Appleseed” stories and manga. If it wasn’t for Akira Miyagawa’s Appleseed manga a few years ago (which mind you, was sublime) I’d be going nuts by now. SHIROW, READ, WE WANT NEW APPLESEED MANGA!!!
