Kato Soichiro Artworks Collection (加藤宗一郎作品集 化心) is one of the art books I discovered during my recent trip to Tokyo. This is one of the reasons why I love visiting ( A LOT of ) bookstores every time I’m in the city; the sheer joy of discovering new artists and their art books is just pure creative bliss.
Kato Soichiro’s illustrations has garnered popularity in Japan after working on numerous cover art for novels as well as music covers. This is his first art book, showcasing over 150 pieces of his illustrations, including both personal as well as commissioned art work.
For me the biggest appeal of Kato’s art work is his adept visual understanding of the human body form combined with Surrealistic, Dali-ish themes. The publisher’s decision to release the book in a large print format certainly help to sell the expressiveness of the artist’s illustrations as well.

Big fan of Kato Soichiro’s art style. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of his splendid illustrations in upcoming print media and other publications. Recommended.
