It’s been 3 weeks since Rango’s release ( 2 weeks here in Singapore ) and the show continues to perform well at the box office, with a “Certified Fresh” 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
I’m most fortunate to have been part of the lighting crew on the show, and am proud to have contributed, even if its just a little, to ILM’s first animated feature. While working on film we were extremely lucky to have received amazing tutelage and creative guidance from 2 powerhouse vfx supervisors at ILM, the legendary John Knoll and Tim Alexander.
Tim is an ILM veteran who has worked on many of my favourite films, including older shows like Zemecki’s Contact, PTA’s Punch Drunk Love and was the VFX supervisor on 3 Harry Potter films; Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix and The Half Blood Prince. ( go here for his full list of credits )
A while back when we were still knee deep in production Tim (pictured below) came to ILM Singapore to work with us briefly for about a week, and I couldn’t help but ask for his autograph on Mr Timms, Rango’s companion in the film ( see poster below ). He even has his own website here. ( The wind-up toy you see above was created as a viral marketing tool for Rango and made its first appearance at ComiCon last year.)
The CGSociety website currently has an excellent article on Tim and his work on Rango.
Rango is still showing in theaters…go catch it before its gone ! : ]

RANGO is my favorite CG film besides LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS, WALL-E, & 9. I love how its in 2D instead of 3D. I love the subtle beautiful artistic moments. Its fully worth seeing in the theatre (& more importantly, go see THE ILLUSIONIST!)…

I haven’t seen a showtime or indication it’d be playing here in Jakarta. I’m looking into it but am honestly most interested in this than any other recent American cg feature.
Am excited to see part of your work in this, Yonghow!
