Otomo Katsuhiro’s Short Peace – Character/Model Sheets

Posted By yonghow on September 9th, 2013

This is the character & model sheets book for Otomo Katsuhiro’s omnibus animated film “Short Peace”. The book was released together with the theatrical run of the film in Japan.

(above & below) The segment “Tsukumo”, directed by Morita Shuhei and character design by Sajiki-san. I had great fun working under both of them on Freedom.

(above & below) Otomo Katsuhiro’s character designs. I can never tire looking at his work – check out his massive art book Genga.

(above & below) Character sheets for the segment Gambo, directed by Hiroaki Ando ( co-director of Tekkon Kinkreet ). The character design is by Sadamoto Yoshiyuki. ( Evangelion, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and loads more. )

(above & below) These drawings for the segment “Farewell To Weapons” ( adapted from Otomo Katsuhiro’s short manga of the same name ) look like they were drawn by Otomo himself, but are actually the work of animator/concept artist Tatsuyuki Tanaka. A most accomplished artist in his own right, folks who are new to his work should definitely check out his art book “Cannabis Works”.

Availability : This is not an actual “art of” book and the prints are scarce. Marketplace sellers on Amazon Japan do carry it ( it doesn’t ship outside of Japan though ), and if you can navigate a Japanese website you can get it here too.

I hope a more comprehensive art book for the film will be released at a later time, together with the blu-ray.

Also check out the review for the program book here.

I hope they will publish a artbook for this. Gambo art looks interesting.
