The official blog for Otomo Katsuhiro’s upcoming animated film Short Peace has uploaded a couple of new posters for each of the short films. Check out the designs below :

The guy in the tweed cap is Tatsuyuki Tanaka (Cannabis Works). It’s actually the first time I’ve seen a picture of the artist. Respect.
Short Peace is shaping up to be one of the more exciting anime releases this year and will start its run in Japan on the 20th of July. Check out this older article for more images from the film.
There’s also a “Products” link (still grayed out) on the official Japanese webpage, I’m sure many of us are hoping for a nice juicy art of book with amazing work from all the great directors involved.

yeah, the more Otomo-styled poster looks fantastic. i am very torn by this movie. on one hand i love Otomo and will basically see this on principle; on the other hand, i am here and there on the animation i have seen in the trailers so far. i guess the danger with omnibus films like this is that there is only so much control one can have without doing the entire project himself, which appears to be exactly what Otomo doesn’t want to do right now (which is understandable considering the way he works).
i think anime in general has had a huge lull in impressive design lately. i know that doing things with a computer is faster and easier, and i know it’s easy for me to say because i’m not the one drawing thousands of cells instead of just modelling a vehicle in StudioMax or something, but it bums me out that most likely we will never see another animation like Wings Of Honneamise or Akira. Letter To Momo was the best looking animation i have seen in years, and i can only hope that someone holds onto that aesthetic for even a little bit longer.
on that note, i am still very bummer out by Satoshi Kon’s passing.

Zack – I think Japan is the only country left that does a significant amount of high quality 2D animation, if that’s any consolation. 3D is pretty much here to stay.
Looking forward to Miyazaki’s Kaze Tachinu as well. :]
