One of the exhibitions I visited during my summer time in Tokyo was the Wa No Akari ( Light Of Japan ) at the Meguro Gajoen, a swanky exhibition venue close to where I used to live down Shimo-Meguro.

The exhibition showcases art and light installations in the rooms at the top of Meguro Gajoen’s Hyakudan Kaidan (100-step staircase), marked as an important cultural asset of Tokyo.

(above & below ) Rows of illuminated Kingyo ( goldfish ) lanterns decorate the entrance to the exhibition.

(above ) An entire room filled mostly with giant dragon puppets, reminding me of the Kaiju costumes from Ultraman. ( below ) One of the last rooms in the exhibition and my favourite, with intricate animal paper cutouts illuminated by colorful lights, a beautiful dance of patterns and shadows.
