“Illustration” is a Japanese magazine (published quarterly in 3/6/9/12) with a focus on illustration for print & manga. ( for coverage on anime production, I suggest the excellent magazine Kikan S. )
Issue number 197 features manga artist Katsura Masakazu (of Video Girl Ai and Zetman fame). I have previously reviewed his art books The Art Of Tiger & Bunny and Zuroku Extended.
Here’s a rare glimpse of the artist’s work area. (image below) I love these pictures because they are always so inspiring. Check out Otomo Katsuhiro’s work area, and Inoue Takehiko’s work area.
(above & below) Also featured in this issue is manga artist/illustrator Egushi Hisashi. I love his simple but elegant line work. He has an art book titled “Works” – I hope to do a review of it in the near future.
(above & below) Art work by illustrator who goes by the pen name “Emma Sky“. I can’t seem to find the artist’s real name any where, if any one of you know please let me know.
This is an excellent resource for the latest illustration trends and upcoming illustrators from Japan. Recommended.
