‘It Came From Outer Space’ (宇宙から来た!) was a mini sketch art exhibition by renowned manga artist/illustrator Katsuya Terada (寺田克也) held at Gallery House Maya from May 1st to 17th, 2025. The gallery is located somewhere in the Omotesando/Jingumae area, which houses many small and interesting art galleries and shops.
I had no idea the exhibition would be in session before I embarked on my Tokyo trip, so it was just good timing that I was in the city at the right time. I most certainly did not expect to see the artist himself in attendance when I visited the day I did; this was the first of two lucky chance encounters with Terada during this trip, both totally unplanned. I’ll write about the 2nd one in the coming week/s.
This exhibition was to showcase some of his latest sketches and art work, many of which are included in his new art book ‘This And That’ which I reviewed just a while back. Read my review here.
It was drizzling the afternoon I visited, and I had left my wet umbrella in the metal stand just outside the gallery. I must have placed it carelessly because it knocked the stand off-balance and it fell with a loud thud. Terada, who was sitting just beside the door – “Ah, no worries no worries, I’ll take care of it”; and proceeded to return the fallen stand and my umbrella back to it’s proper position. Talk about humility, right ?
Casually dropped by a Katsuya Terada exhibition in Omotesando because I was in the area and dude was manning the store lol. pic.twitter.com/vSjjXGNiCi

(above & below) I had previously planned to pick up his new art book “This And That’ ( read my book review here ) on a later day when I visited Kinokuniya, but with Terada in person at the exhibition it was a no-brainer to get a copy with his autograph. As he signed my copy I made some small talk with my terrible Japanese and asked him about his recent trip to my hometown of Singapore ( I’m based in Vancouver ) for a certain comic/toys convention; he remarked that he had a great time there.

this is excellent coverage of this exhibit. love it. for those of us who aren’t able to see it in person, it’s the next best thing.
so it’s 3-5 thousand for an original, is that correct?
