Tokyo Spring Trip 2024 - Junaida Mini Art Exhibition

My flight from Singapore to Tokyo arrived in the morning, and the hotel ( Ohashi Kaikan in Meguro ) that I was staying at doesn’t start check-in until mid afternoon, so after dropping my luggage at the hotel, I decided to a leisurely walk to Daikanayama T-site ( Tsutaya ), one of my favorite bookstores in the city.

It so happened that the Japanese illustrator Junaida was holding a mini art/illustration exhibition at the bookstore in conjunction with a launch of the new art book Tomoshibi (ともしび). I’m quite a fan of the artist’s colorful illustrations and have previously reviewed quite a few of his books.

On display are the original black & white/graphite drawings from the book, detailed and meticulous pieces that showcase the artist’s flair for intricate and interesting compositions.

I just had to picked up a copy of the book (image below) and will write a review in the coming weeks. For reasons unknown the book is listed on Amazon Japan but carries no stock as yet; hopefully that will be rectified in the near future.

I definitely recommend checking out Junaida’s other art books that I have reviewed. I also plan to pick up a couple more of his other illustration/picture books for review soon.
