I’ve just started watching season 3 of HBO’s Westworld series, and a good chunk of the set locations were shot in my hometown of Singapore. The filmmakers have really chosen some of the most iconic and futuristic locations to represent the country, and they look great !
Here are just some of the places I recognize ( episode 1 to 4 ) –
(above) Dolores ( Evan Rachel Wood ) and Caleb ( Aaron Paul ) walk by Lasalle College Of The Arts in downtown, which I believe doubles as the hospital where Caleb’s mother is interned. One of my friends is actually an animation lecturer at the school.
(below) Bernard ( Jeffrey Wright ) re-enters Westworld by sea. This area he strolls through is actually an offshore island near Singapore called Pulau Ubin, which is popular for it’s rustic charm and bicycle trails.
(above & below) Caleb and Maeve ( Thandie Newton ) in Orchard Road, Singapore’s most famous shopping street. The design of the old colonial houses (image above) really make a good visual juxtaposition against the new buildings.
(below) Marina One Garden Tower in downtown, a striking sight with its lush ground level garden.
(above & below) Caleb gets into one of Singapore’s MRT ( Mass Rapid Transit ) trains at Stadium Station in Kallang.
(above) Maeve searching for the Mortician. This location is actually a quiet underpass in Clarke Quay near the Singapore river. The filmmakers have dressed up the underpass with red lanterns and make-shift eateries.
(below) Maeve walks through Singapore’s Chinatown, close to the entrance of Chinatown MRT station.
(above) The impressive Marina Bay Sands casino. ( below ) Just to the right of Marina Bay Sands is a stunning skyline of Singapore’s business district. The Merlion statue can be seen on the bottow right.
(above) The bank that Dolores and Caleb visits is actually the beautiful National Gallery art museum Of Singapore, which used to be the Supreme Courts back in the colonial days.
(below) Maeve and Serac ( Vincent Cassel ) at the glitzy Atlas Bar located in the Parkview Square Hotel in downtown.
This video by Geekculture has a nice run-through of some of the locations I mentioned –
