The VFX of Wong Kar Wai’s The Grandmaster

Posted By yonghow on June 13th, 2013

I so very much enjoyed Wong Kar Wai’s latest film The Grandmaster and found it a beautiful tribute to the graceful movement of Chinese martial arts, in particular the Baguazhang (Zhang Ziyi’s fighting style).

Most, if not all films these days feature some measure of VFX work but the number of VFX shots (512 in total) for The Grandmaster was quite surprising. The VFX is pretty seamless and the integration well executed, so kudos to the VFX team at BUF for an excellent job done.

I worked on the project at Buf a little bit and it was very exciting. The photography was amazing. It was a pleasure to work on those images.

Really cool blog btw 🙂 .

Zack – Great review, very much feel the same way as you did about the film. :]

FlatClem – Jealous ! Great work ! :]

Brandon – Oh yes the music. Reminds me of Ennio Morricone’s scores.
