Just earlier last week Toho unveiled the much awaited teaser for their upcoming tokusatsu film Shin Ultraman (シン・ウルトラマン), directed by Shin Godzilla co-director Shinji Higuchi and produced by Hideaki Anno of Evangelion fame. Check it out below –
A re-imagining of the popular tokusatsu hero Ultraman that made his first appearance in the late 1960s, the film is a co-production between Toho Pictures and Cine Bazar, with the film presented by Tsuburaya Productions, Toho, and Khara.
The look and design of Ultraman and the Kaijus seen in the teaser definitely pays homage to the original character designs created by concept designer Narita Toru, with those bold primary colors. I highly recommend checking out Narita Toru’s art book (image below) which showcases many of his classic Kaiju designs.

Oh the film's official website, Hideaki Anno commented that he wanted to "re-capture the beauty of Ultraman" based on Ultraman character designer Narita Toru's original art work – https://t.co/12Y5Sa4g5Y pic.twitter.com/Uw4BYvlLG9

Gotta admit, I definitely want to see this. I liked SHIN GODZILLA and am curious to see how Higuchi and Anno handle another re-imaging of a popular tokusatsu character.
