Shin Kamen Rider (シン・仮面ライダー) is a 2023 Japanese superhero film directed and written by Hideaki Anno of Evangelion fame. Produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Kamen Rider, it is the third reboot of a tokusatsu series to be adapted by Anno, following Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman. The director is pulling no punches in this final trailer with some mad tokusatsu action. Check it out below –

As a kid I loved to watch the Kamen Rider series on television ( I believe it was Black and Black RX series ), but I really can’t say I am super familiar with the franchise. As with Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman, we’ve seen that Hideaki Anno is taking really fresh approaches to the reboot material, so it remains to be seen how this new film will do to reinvigorate interest in Kamen Rider.

I will be in Tokyo later this spring and with some luck I hope to be able to catch the movie in cinemas still. Also, just like for Shin Ultraman, a visual guide book has been released. I will hold off getting a copy until I’ve seen the film, but you can get a copy here.
