With the first theatrical trailer likely to screen before the release of the Hobbit later this month, viral marketing has started for Guillermo del Toro’s (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) upcoming film Pacific Rim. The videos circulating around don’t excite me half as much as these blueprints for the Jaegers – Godzilla sized robots build to battle Godzilla sized aliens known affectionately as “Kaiju”; meaning monster in Japanese.
ILM is working on the visual effects for the film and I can’t divulge/go into specifics; but get ready for a spectacular visual feast come July next year. :]
Hi-res versions of the blueprints can be found at comicbookmovie.com.

Wow! Didn’t know you guys were working on this. Did any of you get to work on the design on top of the effects?
Congrats for being a part of yet another super cool movie! Del Toro is my fav amongst the sfx-friendly directors. Hope he brought in Terada and Nirasawa for this, like he did for the 1st Hellboy.

Del Toro is my all-time favorite visionary director. The idea of him creating an anime-esque Japanese giant robot vs. kaiju sci-fi film is simply too good to be true. Pacific Rim is my most anticipated film. Art book please!

Weigy – I believe a dedicated team of concept artists was attached to work on the design; including BPRD comic artist Guy Davis.
FAUNA – Ditto on that art book ! :]
