Godzilla – King Of The Monsters is the 3rd film in the Monsterverse franchise of films after Godzilla and Kong : Skull Island, a massive Kaiji-fest featuring some of the most iconic monsters from the Godzilla pantheon of films including Mothra, Rodan and of course King Ghidorah.

This art book explores a sprawling collection of fantastic concept art behind the cinematic realization of these Kaiji legends for the first time in an English film. The bulk of the book’s contents are dedicated to the concept art pieces, with minimal production stills ( i’ve always found these to be of little value in an “art of” book ), with a good chunk of it showcasing Ghidorah, the main antagonist in the film.

I wish King Of The Monsters had a more engaging storyline to go with the amazing visuals, but if you’re looking for a 2 hr long monster slugfest you’ll find plenty to like here. This art book is a fantastic way to explore the visual development of the monster designs as they are adapted from their original Japanese versions to the American version. Recommended.
