“The Amazing Screw-On Head and Other Curious Objects” is a delightful collection of short stories illustrated by the artist/creator of Hellboy Mike Mignola. The subject matter is his forte of oddball supernatural beings and creatures; of magic, fairytales and…screw-on heads.
This special hardcover edition of The Amazing Screw-On Head and Other Curious Objects celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Eisner Award-winning collections’ original publication, and includes an additional 40 pages of new material by Mike Mignola, and featuring colors by the great Dave Stewart. I reviewed the older edition almost a decade ago in 2013.
Story Synopsis – Emperor Zombie is trying to take over the world once again! The Amazing Screw-On Head has been enlisted by President Lincoln to stop the evil emperor, with the help of his faithful partner Mr. Groin and his trusty canine companion Mr. Dog. Screw-On Head will have to brave ancient tombs and defeat demons from a dimension inside a turnip, just one of the strange and mischievous tales in this beloved collection.
(above) The main Screw-on Head story is the same version as the one that was released back in 2010, albeit in a smaller print size. ( below ) The images shown below are from the 40 pages of new material in this new anniversary edition.
Screw-on Head is a splendidly illustrated comic by the ever amazing Mike Mignola. If you own a copy of the earlier edition, you already have something great on your hands. If you don’t, this new anniversary edition with the bigger print size and additional 40 pages of art work and sketches is definitely the way to go. My highest recommendations.
“The Amazing Screw-On Head ( Anniversary Edition ) – Mike Mignola” comic book details :

Oooh, this looks great. I actually have the original Screw-On Head one-shot. I don’t usually collect comic books (too expensive, I just buy the collected editions, I buy for the reading experience, not as an investment) I may want to upgrade to this. It’s printed on much better paper, and I’d love to check out the other short stories.
Great to see the concept sketches too, like they had in the Hellboy Library editions.

Coffee – Yes, I’m in agreement about the sketches section as well, Dark Horse has been putting these in for many of the Hellboy and BPRD comics, and I love that.
