Just like Japan, South Korea has always been a powerhouse of illustration, as evident by the many amazing artists active on the various social media platforms, in particular twitter. Now Japanese publishing house Shoeisha ( who gave us the excellent ILLUSTRATION series ) has compiled this book aptly titled Illustration Scene Of Korea, showcasing 35 prominent South Korean illustrators.
The presentation and format is largely similar to the ILLUSTRATION series, with each artist showcased with a few pages of their art as well as their social media contacts, medium choice and a short profile and self introduction of their own work. Shoeisha is kind enough to include English translations, so readers who don’t read Japanese will be able to have some additional context when viewing the illustration pieces.
There is also a short interview with the artist Zipcy, whose stunning illustration is used for the book cover art.
A splendid collection of South Korean illustration circa 2023, this volume is also a perfect way to discover and follow the artists you enjoy easily with their social media contacts included in the book. Recommended.
