Retrospective Scenes From A Sentimental World (情緒的な風景を描) is the 3rd art book from a series published by PIE Books dedicated to illustrations of beautiful scenery and landscapes. I reviewed the 1st from series as well – Everyday Scenes From A Parallel World.
The curated illustrations found in the book are of exceptional quality, with many created by artists that I love, including Ilya Kuvshinov ( image above ), Yoko Tanji, Hirotaka Tanaka and more.
(below) Artwork by Hirotaka Tanaka. Check out my review for his art book Encounter.
(below) Illustrations by Yoko Tanji. She is one of my favourite Japanese artists and I’m really hoping she’ll publish an art book soon. ( There’s a special feature on her in this issue of Illustration magazine ) In the meantime, you can follow her work on twitter.
This is a superb collection of gorgeous landscape illustrations presented in a large square format, and almost all the art work are showcased on its own page ( few are printed across the spine ), which makes for great viewing. The huge number of contributing artists also make this book a great catalogue for discovering some of the best Japanese illustrators working out there right now. Highly recommended.
I also suggest checking out the first art book from the series, Everyday Scenes From A Parallel World.
