‘Fear’ is an exquisitely illustrated art book by Japanese artist Yuko Higuchi (ヒグチユウコ), most renowned for her haunting movie poster design illustration for Ari Aster’s Midsommar. I picked this up during my 2025 spring trip to Tokyo where her art exhibition ‘The Mythical Animals’ was on-going.
The book presents Yuko Higuchi’s intricately detailed monochrome drawings and illustrations alongside prose exploring themes of fear, philosophical ponderings of existentialism and self identity.

(above) The book includes a stamped seal and the artist’s autograph on the first page.

Availability : Unfortunately at the time of writing, this book is not widely available and can only be purchased in person at Yuko Higuchi’s store Boris Zakkaten in Tokyo or her online store, and in the case of the latter I don’t believe it ships internationally.
If you like Yuko Higuchi’s illustration work and drawings, I can wholeheartedly recommend 2 other art books that I’ve previously reviewed that are available on Amazon Japan – ‘Talk About Films And Posters’ as well as ‘Circus’.

This book is beautiful. Even though I have seen you post work from Yuko Higuchi before, it’s registering in a different way this time. This book is magical and feels like a must buy. I went to her website and it is letting me checkout with an overseas address, but the shipping is close to $120. I might have to wait until after the holidays. lol Thanks for another great post though!
