Accidentally Wes Anderson is a stunning photo book inspired by the distinctive visual design and vocabulary of the famed director behind films like The Royal Tenenbaums, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Isle Of Dogs.
Authorized by the director himself, this hardcover volume collects over 200 photographs of real-life places that seem plucked from the just-so world of his films, presented with fascinating human stories behind each façade. Symmetry, a visual hallmark and ubiquitous quality found in all of Wes Anderson films makes a huge presence in the photographs, as well as a rich palette of vibrant primary and complimentary colors.
The author of the book Wally Koval scoured pictures taken over the entire globe for landmarks and stories to feature, and the pictures and locations showcased in the book are represented on every continent.
(above left) My hometown of Singapore ( Changi Airport ) is featured only once in the book, a phone booth framed by a lovely rainbow colored backdrop.
I’m a pretty big fan of Wes Anderson’s films, in no small part due to the meticulous attention he pays to craft fascinating worlds that are as visually stunning as they are narratively engaging. This book is a wonderful extension of his universe, a veritable case of life imitating cinematic art. Highly recommended.
