Apologies for my longer than usual absence and lack of posts/updates. Besides been terribly busy at work due to a vfx project’s upcoming deadline, I’ve been spending most of my remaining free time binge-watching the whole 8 seasons of HBO’s Game Of Thrones fantasy series, which I’ve recently acquired on 4K UHD. This is actually the first time I’m re-visiting the series ever since the show ended it’s run back in 2019, so some of the finer plot details from the earlier seasons were completely forgotten to me when I was watching.

Here are some pictures of the massive box set spanning 8 seasons, 73 episodes, 33 discs and over 15 hours of additional features.

Each of 8 seasons are housed in their own jewel case consisting of either 4 or 3 4K UHD discs, and the cover art are beasts and creatures that represent the most powerful houses of Westeros. The metallic designs goes really well with the overall black background of the box design. There is a 9th jewel case that covers the additional making of material.

Picture/image quality – I’m not a professional home media reviewer by any measure, so I can only report what I see based on my experience as someone working in the visual effects industry; the 4K UHD images are spectacular. Standard HD quality blu-ray often gives us a pretty decent presentation, but the 4K version excels so much more in terms of the sharpness and crispness of the pictures, both the actual filmed footage as well as the VFX/CGI. The HDR gives us very rich blacks that are not crushed flat or compressed, and the fidelity of the colors and tones really make the images pop and appear much more 3-dimensional.

For the additional features, I’ve not viewed all of them, but included are the Game Of Thrones reunion celebration hosted by Conan O’brien, plus a handful of features that cover costume designs, post production as well as VFX. There are also audio commentaries by filmmakers and the cast for most, if not all the seasons.

Despite fans’ misgivings and disagreements about how the series should have ended, Game Of Thrones remain one of the best TV series ever made, and this 4K UHD set is hands down the best way to enjoy it. I purchased this when there was a discount on Amazon for about $95, which comes to about 12 bucks for each season, but the regular price is still good value for money in my opinion. Very highly recommended.

While we’re talking about Game Of Thrones, I would also highly recommend the art books published that showcases the series most outstanding costume designs, concept art and photography.
