I’ve been assailed by a deluge of MGS4 publicity material this week as the game went on sale in Tokyo, with multiple attacks on television, print and public transport, even at work. A series of promotional events were also scheduled by Konami but were subsequently cancelled, due to the unfortunate stabbing spree in Akihabara.
No doubt the game must be a heck lot of fun ( check out reviews by RIUVA and Jasrie ), but just like most others that are ( HALO, TF2, just to name a few ) therein lies its curse; as a person of astonishingly weak self discipline I know there’s no stopping myself once I start playing, and I already have too little free time outside work.
Next time, maybe.

Wow, they sure didn’t go easy on the copy lines – “Have we run out of games that can be handed down generations?” “Are games nothing more than “time-wasters” now” and whatnot. Definitely catches your eye.

rare commentator – Haha, probably just trying to stir a little controversy, I’m sure the game would have sold equally well without any striking captions.

Only Metal Gear Solid has the branding power to use attempted stabs as part of the marketing campaign.
If you haven’t played MGS4, you should. That game can be considered to be one of the best political, sci-fi films around.
