Great CG shorts by POLYNOID

My apologies first for the lack of updates recently. I’ve been really busy working on this film that’s due to hit cinemas on the 1st of July. I have some backlog of art books and articles that I want to review/post and I’ll try to get to them as and when I can.

Anyway, the company had a screening of the 2010 Siggraph Electronic Theatre recently and I quickly recognized a familiar name, Ilija Brunck, whose team’s submission received the “Best in Show” award. Iljia is a brilliant German CG artist whom I met back in 2007 by pure luck when he came to stay at my guesthouse while working at Polygon Pictures in Tokyo. I myself was halfway through Otomo’s Freedom Project at Sunrise Emotion.

Iljia and his friends make up the amazing CG group Polynoid and their work have been winning awards all over world. I really like their affinity for macro cinematography and its an enjoyment to see how well they emulate the feel of real life cameras using CG. Awesome stuff.

Check out their fantastic reel here.
