Having visited Ghibli Museum a good many times over the years when I lived in Tokyo ( the museum was about 30 minutes away by bicycle from my rental apartment ), it is not usually on my itinerary during my annual visits to the city, but this year there was a special exhibition for the background art of The Boy And The Heron, so I had a good reason to.

Unfortunately the special exhibitions and the interior of the museum are off-limits for any kind of photography, so here are some random pictures I took of areas outside the main museum building.

By the way, I recommend checking out the official photography book for the Ghibli Museum for some really beautifully shot photographs.

(above & below) This mostly charming display featuring a cityscape from Kiki’s Delivery Service is just so delightful that I find myself taking ( and re-taking ) pictures every time I see it. It is located near the fountain and the rental lockers.

The weather was just lovely on the day I visited, with clear blue skies that framed the Castle In The Sky robot ( located on the museum rooftop garden ) beautifully.

Despite having visited the museum a good many times as I mentioned, one thing that I did do for the first time was to enjoy the Kaze No Tani beer from the Cafe Mugiwaraboushi ( Straw Hat Cafe – named after the straw hat that Mei from My Neighbor Totoro wears ), an item I never knew existed hitherto ! The design on the beer bottle is so lovely that I had to lug it home despite it weighing down my luggage a fair bit.
