Tokyo Spring Trip 2025 – AKIRA Pop-Up Store, Shibuya

To celebrate the release of the AKIRA REMIX soundtrack as well as the start of the phase 2 release of the Otomo The Complete Works, publisher Kodansha organized an exciting pop-up store event held at Tsutaya Shibuya, right next to the world famous Shibuya scramble crossing in Tokyo, Japan.

The store was open for a month from September 28th to October 27 2024. Thankfully for me, Parco still retained a small section of the original store when I visited earlier this spring. While the selection of items on sale were reduced, I was still able to pick up a couple of cool posters, T-shirts and a tote bag.

(image above) I was also able to pick up this vinyl version of the AKIRA REMIX soundtrack, despite not owning a record player…yet. I actually can’t recall if I purchased it while I was at this pop-up store or when I visited Tower Records Shibuya. Anyway, it’s a worthwhile purchase not only for Yamashirogumi’s music but also the new cover illustration by Otomo.

Akira stuff is cool and all, but I’m loving those little monitors. Can see myself plugging in a NES, Genesis, or running MAME through them.

Chris James – Haha yeah those little monitors would be perfect for MAME and those vintage game systems !
