Traffic lights at a cross junction in Nishi-Ogikubo, where I cycle past everyday to and fro work. In Tokyo cross junctions allow you to well, cross diagonally (unlike Singapore), which can really be a live saver when one is in a hurry. Speaking of which, the busiest scramble crossing in Tokyo will have to be in Shibuya, made famous by Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean. The crowd there is amazing any day of the week. Still, folks like to meet up at Hachiko exit nonetheless, I’m guilty of that myself actually.

Thank you ! Its not so often one get to see so many traffic signs huddled close together like this, so I thought it might make for an interesting picture.

Malaysia’s (at least in Johor Bahru) pedestrian crossings have animated green men – like the 8-Bit Lode Runner man or the sprites on the old Game & Watch hand helds.

A really cool photo… never saw a pedestrian crossing like that before.

Nice composition. I like the repetition of elements.
Although I have not traveled to Japan (yet), I have always been impressed with the scale, complexity, and organization of large Japanese city intersections seen in photos, television, and movies.

Zero – Animated traffic signs ! Gotta see that in person.
Rok – Thank you for dropping by ! I really like Jame’s character design, so I’ll be visiting often to see your updates. :]
Erik – I think another reason why Japanese cities are so visually interesting is its blend of old and new architecture. I hope to post more photographs in the future, if I ever get time to go out and take some. :]

sorry for the wierd question, but what kind of lens do you use for your camera?
July 20th, 2007 at 5:29 am
Hey tragic comedy, for my DSLR Nikon d40 I use a 18-80mm zoom lens that came bundled with the camera, cheap but good, and another Nikon 50mm prime lens, great for close ups.

The photo look so nice. Just don’t know how to describe it. The tube leading to the traffic light reminds me of those old city with a lot of manufacturing factories I seen in some animes. And the blue sky provide a deep contrast to that.

Hello XiaoRouWan, thanks for dropping by. :] I was lucky that the skies were quite blue the day I shot this picture.

Very nice. It’s not often I enjoy the “urban themed random close-up” type photography, but this one has a nice vibe. I just get the feeling it would be more interesting as a tall, vertically framed shot, perhaps with a wide angle lens.

Excellent suggestion. I did not pack my full gear that day so I was unable to attempt that shot.
