Was out field testing my newly acquired Sigma 30mm 1.4 prime lens, these are some cursory shots I took up on Fort Canning.
(above) Windows from Fort Canning Centre, home to the Singapore Dance Theatre. It has a great view overlooking the greens and part of the city beyond.
The walls adorning the green open space just in front of the center are resting places for select British dignitaries that ruled Singapore some 150 years ago.
(above) The tomb for a Russian gentleman Wladimir Astafiew that served as a lieutenant in the Imperial Russian Navy in the 1800s. A descendent seemed to have visited just very recently.
I’m fairly pleased with the performance of the lens but I did notice significant chroma abberation when stopping down to 1.4 and the bokehs are actually not as smooth as I thought they’ll be. ( for a lens with 8 diaphragm blades. ) I hope I’m not shooting with a faulty set, if anyone out there is shooting with the same lens I’ll love to hear your experience with it.

Hey Yonghow, am curious, do you draw or paint? With such a keen eye for lighting and composition, I’d think you’ve got some rendering skills up your sleeve.
Gorgeous shots man.

These are all captured with the available light?
By the way, Peter Jackson’s reveal that they are filming The Hobbit at 48fps and projecting the same has been on my mind lately. Being that you work for an industry giant, have you been able to witness tech like Showscan or similar higher frame rate footage? If so, can you describe the effect on image quality and sensory stimualtion?

mr hill/weigy – Thanks ! I used to draw a long time ago, these days I’m pretty rusty. Will need some motivation to do some serious drawing again.
KingRaoh – Yes, all the pictures were shot with available light.
I’ve heard about the decision to shoot using Red cameras on 48 fps, but I had no idea they’ll be projecting at the same rate, nor seen any such footage before. Did they do the same on The Social Network ? I think I prefer the look of good old film at 24 fps though, I guess we’ll find out.

Hey Yonghow, nice photos! I was really missing this kind of posts.
I’d like to see some more posts about Singapore, like those you did about Japan, when you were there. Any plans on that?

Nice photographs! I was waiting for your next photo update. 🙂 The outdoor shots are spectacular, particularly the close-ups of the graves.

Nice photos, last one reminds me Wong Kar-wai’s Fallen Angels in some sort of way. Obviously a keen eye you have there Yonghow.
Greetings!
(AGREE wth Hina, a nice set of photo-post from Singapoure will be amazing!)
