The World Of Shirow Masamune Manga Exhibition - Otomo Tribute Illustration

AKIRA manga artist Katsuhiro Otomo has painted this beautiful Ghost In The Shell illustration of Motoko Kusanagi ‘The Major’ and Uchikoma as a tribute piece for ‘The World Of Shirow Masamune Manga Exhibition’, now taking place in Osaka ( Shinsaibashi Parco Gallery ) until October 5th 2025.

Fans of AKIRA will of course recognize the design as a nod to the original poster art for AKIRA ( see image further below ).

Otomo had also revealed that he has been really busy and was unable to finish the piece in time for the Tokyo leg of the exhibition; you can check out my coverage of the exhibition from my visit in May, which also includes quite a few other guest art work by renowned artists like Katsuya Terada, Ilya Kuvshinov, Ito Ogure and many more.

I’m wondering if the catalog art book for the exhibition ( read my review here ) will be updated to include this piece by Otomo, and if so, I’m going tohave to double-dip…
