“Works” is a collection of illustration pieces by popular Japanese illustrator Eguchi Hisashi, from the period of 1995 to 2008. I previously highlighted his work in the book review for Illustration magazine No.197.
The artist’s style is easily recognizable – very clean, simple line-work filled with flat, bold colors, at times resembling the work of Pop artist Roy Lichenstein, or even some of Moebius’s work.
(above) Poster illustrations for the Japanese shock/gore film Machine Girl. ( Loose socks are pretty much out of fashion now, if you must know )
(above leflt) The artist possess a spectacular color sense, a keen eye for attractive poses and have a knack for capturing the “performances” of the drawn characters.
I picked up this book not just because I found the artist’s work charming, but also because there’s more than a thing or two about illustration/posing/composition one can learn in here. Recommended.

in a lot of ways, he reminds me of a Japanese version of of Vittorio Giardino. if you are unfamiliar, check him out here: http://users.belgacom.net/vittorio_giardino_universe/
there is a forthcoming Gaikoku no Oni article on him, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

I had never heard of this artist until I saw your blog post. I was immediately intriqued and added it to my amazon wishlist.
My buddy just gave it to me as a birthday gift.
WOW. Just gorgeous. I love the linework and the colors. Everything is just SO clean. Not a single line wasted. Eguchi is really something else.
Can’t thank you enough for bringing this collection to my attention! I love it!! Gonna pore over every page!
