Toriyama Akira billboards

Posted By yonghow on September 23rd, 2008

(above) A Dragonball DS promotional billboard on the Tozai Subway Line in Takadanobaba, where I pass by on my way to work everyday. I’ve been itching to get my hands on a DS Lite for ages now but I know abstinence in this case is the right thing to do – once the addiction kicks in, there’s just no stopping it.

(above) This was actually featured in an earlier post this year, Toriyama’s “Dr. Slump” Arare-chan sells some Roots Coffee, also in Takadanobaba Station. I rather enjoyed her guest appearance in Dragonball. My illustrator friend Innocentgirl is a rabid fan of Arare-chan – check it out on her travel blog posts !

(above) Took this picture quite a while back but never got around to posting it. The May 2008 issue of “Jump SQ”, a monthly Shonen manga featured Toriyama’s comic on the front cover.

(above) A very surreal picture of Kichijoji, an extremely popular and crowded shopping spot in near Mitaka. ( also where Studio 4°C is located. ) The reason there’s not a soul in sight is because its 5 in the morning – I was still working on Freedom at Sunrise and took the picture when I was riding past Kichijoji on my way home. Yeah I know, those were crazy times.

I’ve been suffering from net withdrawal symptoms for the past few days – My cable modem broke down at the end of last week and it was only repaired today. Its amazing how cut-off from the entire world one can feel simply without the access of the internet for a couple of days.

Ncha!!! Sugoi! That billboard is like 5 mins from my friends place in Kichi … aww, it’s making me homesick! Every time the seasons change I get real homesick for Japan… go figure? My advice to you is, get some sleep and keep away from computer screens in your time off.

5 am and it’s so bright?! It looks like 10am! I’m still used to Singapore where it’s pitch black at 5am 🙂

CMWilly – Sure thing ! Let me know when you’re coming. :]

andrea – Sounds like good advice to me. :] Your friend lives near Kichijoji ? Neat !

w – I guess that’s why Japan is the land of the rising sun – first light is as early as 430 in winter.
