Katoh Naoyuki – Guin Saga Art Works ( 加藤直之グイン・サーガ画集 ) is a collection of illustrations for the long running Japanese fantasy novel Guin Saga by Kaoru Kurimoto, with art work by Katoh Naoyuki. The story centers around a mysterious warrior named Guin, an amnesiac with a leopard mask magically affixed to his head.
Besides Katoh Naoyuki, other notable artists have also illustrated art work for the novel, including Yoshitaka Amano, Jun Suemi and Shinobu Tanno.
In his other art book Katoh-san cites his artistic influences by Victorian artists like Alma-Tadema and John William Waterhouse; often I see a visual affinity to paintings by the great Gustav Klimt and William Bouguereau as well.
(below) Besides the colored art work there is also a section of monochrome illustrations near the end of the book.
Although I personally prefer Katoh-san’s science fiction illustrations, his fantasy art work is equally fascinating and well worth a look. Recommended.

Lavinia – There are a couple of Katoh Naoyuki art books that I’ve not yet browsed through before, I’m fairly sure this piece of art work might just be in one of these books.
