Yamada Akihiro is a Japanese illustrator/manga artist best known for his work on Rahxephon and Lodoss War – Lady of Pharis, of which the hugely popular Record Of Lodoss War anime is based on.
This art book is a collection of his illustrations and drawings, some 480 pieces in all, with about 150 colored pieces.
Besides illustration work, Akihiro-san also does concept art work from time to time – like the exquisite character designs he created for the film Shinobi – Heart Under Blade
(above top right) The character depicted in the illustration is Ishikawa Goemon, a legendary master thief in Japanese folklore not unlike Robin Hood. See this older post.
Goemon was eventually captured and boiled alive in a giant vat – till this day the vats often seen in Japanese hot spring baths are called Goemonburo (Goemon baths).
(above & below) The latter 1/2 of the book features monochrome illustrations.
A beautiful collection of art work from a veteran illustrator with exceptional draftsmanship skills. Highly recommended.

He has a couple of other art books that are just as good but they’re out of print, I hope to get some of them for review in the future. :]
