This is not an art book per se but as the title suggest an encyclopedia of mythological and fantasy creatures, places and things. The content is expansive and covers not only subjects from Western mythology but all over the world.

The gem of the book however, are the amazing illustrations that accompany the entries, without which the book will certainly be a little dry to read.

I can imagine this as a book that Hellboy artist Mike Mignola would pick up for inspiration whenever he embarks on a new story – the content has fantastic reference value, and on top of the the illustrations really make the book a very enjoyable read. Highly recommended.
