Certainly the first of many more to come, “Serendipity” is a splendid collection of Japanese manga artist/illustrator/concept artist Maeshima Shigeki’s illustration works, who gave us the highly acclaimed graphic novel “Dragonfly”. ( See this older article for the book review. )
About a third of the book is dedicated to artwork Maeshima illustrated for a Japanese novel “The Book of Bantorra”, which have since been adapted into an anime series. The story is set in a quasi Victorian age where a band of armed librarians ( sexy ones at that ) battle an insidious cult /organization called the Church of Shindeki.
The rest of the book covers commissioned artwork he did for games, some for his graphic novel “Dragonfly”, personal works and more. The entire volume is pure artwork with no pages of text at all, safe for a short personal paragraph by Maeshima on the last page.
“Serendipity” artbook details :
