I’m a very big fan of the Patlabor anime films and TV series, and have always wanted to read the original manga by Masami Yuki (ゆうきまさみ) that spawned the mecha franchise that is still hugely popular some 3 decades later. Unfortunately the Japanese edition of the manga has been out of print for a long time…until now !

Japanese publishing house Shogakukan (小学館) has just re-launched a new edition of the manga, which even comes with some colored pages. Here are some preview images from the vol 1 Tankobon ( please excuse me for my terrible photography on some of the pages ) –

(image below) Fans of the anime films/series can tell just how faithful the creators have been in retaining the original character designs of the manga artist Masami Yuuki.

(image above) The manga comes with a thin cardboard protective slipcase.

I’ve been waiting for a long time to collect the Patlabor manga, and now I finally can. I look forward to reading the whole collection soon ! Recommended.

ps The Japanese used in the manga is fairly easy to understand, with furigana characters to help you read the Kanji words ( not all mangas do this ). It’s a great way to improve your Japanese vocabulary !
