I’m a big fan of Tokyo based Polish illustrator Mateusz Urbanowicz, a seasoned artist who has worked on anime films like Space Dandy as well as Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name. He has been working as a freelance artist from 2017 and have since published 2 art books, both of which I have reviewed here and here.
Mateusz was approached in 2020 by one of the major Japanese mobile service providers, DOCOMO, to create the illustrations for their next corporate calendar to be distributed to all of their branches and business partners in the coming year. Here are a few of the stunning pieces he has illustrated –
(image above) The World UNESCO site Kiyomizudera Temple in Kyoto, which I’ve been lucky to visit a few times in the past. It’s an absolutely gorgeous place especially in Spring and Autumn.
(image below) Koinobori, wind socks fashioned in the shape of carps to celebrate Children’s Day in Japan on the 5th of May. Here are pictures of some I took near my old film school in Takadanobaba in Tokyo.
Head on down to Mateuz’s page on Behance to see all the 12 pieces in higher quality. If you are new to his work, I highly recommend checking out his two beautiful illustrated art books, Tokyo Storefronts and Tokyo At Night.
