The Art Of Game Of Thrones Book Review

The Art Of Game of Thrones is a massive and heavy 432 paged tome of an art book that extensively covers the sprawling behind the scenes concept art from HBO’s hit fantasy series Game Of Thrones Season 1 to 8.

Most, if not all the Westeros locations featured in the series are represented by at least a few pages of concept art, from King’s Landing, Winterfell, Dragonstone to Castle Black and many more.

Conspicuously missing in the book however are the creature concept art designs; the dragons, direwolves and Whitewalkers, which make me suspect that these might be covered in a separate volume to be published in the near future – this is purely my speculation only.

That said, the sheer size and volume of the content covered in this book is still overwhelming as it is. The 30 preview images I’ve attached in this article offer only a very small sampling of what comes in the book, and I had a hard time choosing what to show because there’s so much amazing work.

Any Game Of Thrones fan will be interested in this, and more so for those who wish to further study the visual aesthetics of the series in detail. I do hope the aforementioned volume for creature design concept art is coming as well. Highly recommended.

Three other books in this Game Of Thrones series include The Photography Of Game Of Thrones, Game Of Thrones : The Costumes and The Storyboards. I hope to review all of them in the near future.

“The Art Of Game Of Thrones” book details :

Exquisite. I do not like how the TV series turned out (it took a nosedive after season 4), but can’t deny the artistry of its visuals.

Deckard – I’ve only seen the entire run once so I honestly cannot remember clearly where things started to go south, haha. As you mentioned, the visuals are top notch work nonetheless.
