Derelict Planet – Pascal Blanche Art Book Review

Posted By yonghow on July 18th, 2012

French 3D artist/Art director Pascal Blanche was kind enough to ship me a copy of his new art book Derelict Planet for perusal, I posted this as fast as I could so as to share with you guys his amazing work :

As I browsed through the book I *think* I can pick up some palpable influences from artists like Simon Bisley, Katsuya Terada, Frazetta, Mike Mignola, Jon Foster and Moebius, and probably more that I’m not widely read enough to recognize. With so many influences one would expect the results to be derivative but Pascal’s deft handling of the media and his use of bold, psychedelic colors create a distinct and unique style to call his own.

(above) Am particularly fond of these two pieces.

(below) In the last section of the book Pascal steps the reader through his creative process using one of his art work, from concept art right up to completion of the piece. Highly educational and inspiring.

Dereclict Planet is listed on Amazon.com but is currently unavailable. I’ll update this page again for other sources to get the book.

Buy From Amazon CA | Buy From Amazon UK | Buy From Amazon Japan

Meanwhile, head on to Pascal’s site and his blog for more good stuff.

Definitely got a strong Brom vibe going on (e.g., Brom’s ‘Gazelle’).
