Having just completed my work on the upcoming Sony Pictures Animation film Connected, I’m taking a short breather and am enjoying my time playing the sequel to the highly acclaimed Naughty Dog Playstation game The Last Of Us.
I’m still pretty early in the game and it definitely delivers, but I’ve been getting more and more into the Photo Mode which comes with the game, a feature that allows you the thrill of becoming a virtual cinematographer, with plenty of control over the game camera, depth of field, film grain and more.
The challenge is to create the most cinematic images possible; here’s a few of my amateurish attempts but I’ve seen some amazing work done by other players on twitter that have a knack for aesthetically pleasing compositions.
Below are some great examples of the images created using the Photo Mode by John Sweeney, who is an art director at Naughty Dog for the game –

And here are some created by me using the Noir filter in Photo Mode, with some additional tweaks to brightness levels and depth of field –

I’m going to take my time enjoying the game as well as its Photo Mode; I’m also looking forward to reviewing the art book for the game, which is in the mail.
