Some very impressive looking images taken from the HD trailer of Tim Burton’s rendition of “Alice in Wonderland”, due for release in March 2010. The cast includes some of the director’s regulars like Christopher Lee, Helena Bonham Carter, and of course Johnny Depp.
If the look and view of the film reminds you of Brad Siberling’s Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, that’s because many of the crew members, like the amazing costume designer Colleen Atwood (who also worked on one of my fav films of all times, Gattaca ) and art director Todd Cherniawsky are also working on this film. Cinematography is by Dariusz Wolski, who shot the Pirates of the Carribean Trilogy, Sweeney Todd and Dark City.
The film’s numerous CG and visual effects are done by Sony Imageworks. These days there is very little we cannot achieve in terms of stunningly good looking CGI, so fantasy films like this are perhaps the perfect outlet for showcasing them – the story however, should still be king of course.
(above) Johnny Depp looks just a wee bit too sinister for me, even as Mad Hatter. Remember the melodramatic aunt May in Sam Raimi’s Spiderman who, after a less than pleasurable encounter with the Green Goblin exclaims “Those eyes ! Those horrible yellow eyes !” ? Well, wait till she get load of this.
Go here to watch the trailer in all its HD glory.

I like the lack of actual black and subtlety, but hate the overall style. Looks like early 3d games released on multiple CD’s :).

This reminds me of the Mirrormask movie.

I was not waiting for this movie, but tim burton is an exelente the director and there possesses a sense of the very particular aesthetics, deveres that is a great contribution to alicia’s history.
Alicia is a story indeed very suggestive and with many readings. It(he) is very attractive to see this new version and his(her, your) new interpretations

jejejejeje i dont think aunt May will go to see this movie ever!
i like jonny deep characterization, the quote that he says to alice in the trailer has a naughty-perverted tone i like very much. All the details are so well achieve as in any burton´s film.
sometimes i feel SO present the composite work in burton´s movies, that still in queen´s palace with the pillars and the big door is pretty, but a little oversaturated to me.
The smile from that freaking cat makes me the chill!
brrrrr…. >________<

The movie seems to be pretty good. but that’s not the point, the point is that now there’s a movie for everything.

It is absolutely a Disney movie. The character of Johny Depp seems to be overdone a bit to me and somehow makes me remember to Jack Sparrow. I think the book was not supposed to be like that (it is very Enlish) but on the otherhand the film is a great fun (and very American).

Movie is a piece of beautifull mess. Stupid and pointless but visually flawless.
