Sony has released the final international trailer for Spiderman : Homecoming, which is out on the 7th of July. Check it out below :
One of the shots I worked on appears in the trailer, which is always nice to see; Vulture getting ready for takeoff at the 40 second mark. ( image below ) I had fun lighting this shot, balancing the look of the CG elements to match the lighting of the live-action plate.
We’re almost done with the VFX for the movie and while I’m excited to see the film I’m also looking forward to taking some time off after working really long hours for the past few months.

Very nice work on the Vulture, Vong [Or should I call you Yonghow? *sirens* Awkward westerner alert!]
Do you have preset colour profiles/settings for different manufacturers lights [Which you would match with the equipment used in the live action plate] and then tweak from there? Or do you build the lighting from scratch?

Ben – Thanks ! Either one is fine but most of my friends call me Vong. 🙂
Good question, I’m not sure about the specifics of the workflow but we grade our lights from the base colour space and LUT set up by the DP and onset VFX sup during the shoots. Works pretty well most of the time but per shot tweaks are sometimes required. From there a well stitched hdri for the light rig will get you great results.
Distrakt – I think so too !
