Ridley Scott’s much anticipated Prometheus may not have been the film that all Alien fans were hoping it’ll be, but I don’t think there is any argument about how visually stunning the movie is. This book goes behind the scenes and explores the art and making of the film, from concept art to set, costume, creature and mecha design; the works.

(above) A detailed and elaborate storyboard for the film’s opening sequence. Perhaps some of the deleted scenes will be made available on the blu-ray release. ( below ) “Ridleygrams” – hand drawn storyboards by the director. You can find this throughout the book.

(below) The massive Ampule chamber in construction at Pinewood Studios. Production designer/art director Arthur Max, whose previous credits include Gladiator, Panic Room and Black Hawk Down, oversees the set design of the film.

(above) One of the highlights of the film has got to be the spacesuits. There is no indication in the book that the late Moebius offered any design input for the costumes, but the organic curves and strips is somewhat reminiscent of his style. (below) An abandoned creature concept for the infected Fifield. Amazing sculpt.

Fans and artists alike should pick this one up for the wealth of materials it offers on the art and making of the film,  as we wait for the extended edition of Prometheus to arrive on blu-ray. Highly recommended.
