Can anyone say Casshern 2 ? Kazuaki Kiriya ( ex-husband of Japanese pop singer Hikaru Utada ) tempts us again with gorgeous images from his upcoming quasi-Jidaigeki ( period ) film that is Goemon.
Kiriya’s roots and experience as a fashion photographer ( he has also directed a couple of Hikaru Utada’s mtvs before embarking on his debut feature Casshern. ) manifests clearly here as he handles his visuals with aplomb and confidence, but whether he can deliver a film that is more than just pretty waits to be seen.
An impressive short trailer is now available from the official Goemon website.
Anyone out there watched Casshern ?

Casshern is in my DVD collection, good film but pretty long and ‘intense’.
Not something you watch to relax 🙂

ugh…casshern. I felt if it was cut into 30+ music videos it would be awesome, but watching it all in one long messy clump didnt do too well for me. After seeing the short but rather nice trailer for goemon (in which goemon even has the same poses and half-mask of casshern)i hope he has improved considerably, because he does do great visuals.

BiGgUy – Did they show Casshern in Singapore too ?
Harry D. – Too long actually, haha. I usually just watch the action sequences.
tragic comedy – Yep. Kiriya’s a music video director, so strong visuals are pretty much guaranteed. The rest of the show however, well, we’ll see.

Hmmm…..dun really remember whether it was shown in singapore…..Bought the Casshern dvd in Hongkong…..
Nowadays not much Japan movies was shown here instead we have loads of Korean movies shown here which are crappy 🙂 (not to mention all the Korean dramas…..which i dun like hahaha)
The most recent movie from japan that i watched in the theatres is “20th century boys” (i’m a big fan of the comics)…..all thanks to Death Note movie which was a hit here in singapore…..theatres here most likely to have or bring in japan comics to movie ar……
Btw i prefers Japan drama den korean ones…..short and sweet and funny too compared to the long winded…..cry father cry mother korean ones hahahaha…..:)

I saw GOEMON in my hometowns’ Toho-cinema in Yachiyo on 2009.5.1. It was awesome but VERY fictional. Some visuals weren’t good, but the film has a great atmosphere and the characters are charming (or not…) I loved Mitsunari’s character. He was so utterly evil, that he should have become unrealistic, but he did his job too well. I loved him!! ^^
