Tokyo Excessive Love Theory (東京“偏愛”論 あなたが知らない東京の魅力を語る) is a series of interviews with 3 renowned Japanese creatives; world famous architect Kengo Kuma, contemporary artist Katsuhiko Hibino and manga artist Katsuhiro Otomo where they talk about the unique appeals of Tokyo and their love for the cosmopolitan city. The interview is conducted by Hisao Taki, chairman of NKB, a major Japanese marketing/advertising company.

The cover art is illustrated by Otomo, and prior to purchasing the book I had hoped that there would be a fair amount of his art work showcased in the book, but alas it features only the cover art and a black & white sketch drawing on the inner cover. Check out some pictures below –

Freelance work for magazine and book cover art as well as other marketing and promotional materials are a staple of Japanese illustrators, and Otomo himself has done his fair share of them, with many showcased in his art book KABA and KABA 2.

Anyway, since I’ll already bought the book, I might as well read it and I’m sure it will be quite an interesting read !
