Who doesn’t love Tintin ?! As a kid growing up during the late 1980s in Singapore, Tintin was hugely popular. The few copies in the public libraries are always loaned out, so some of us would actually hide the books in hard to find places in the library so that we can keep reading them.
This huge 480 pages volume is a celebration of the art of Tintin’s creator Hergé and is published by the Tintin Museum located outside of Louvain, Belgium. Packed full of sketches and rough/work in progress drawings of the comic, the book also showcases the many iconic cover illustrations we’ve come to love, but in their original state before the addition of the titles. The images are complimented by the captions that given additional context to the life and illustrious career of Hergé.
Book description : Since Tintin first appeared in 1929, he has captivated generations of children and adults alike. Millions followed Tintin’s journeys from the wilds of the Congo to the streets of Prague, Moscow, and New York. Published in 2013, Tintin: The Art of Hergé attracted Tintin fans everywhere by offering insight into this iconic character, with incredible access to original sources from the Hergé Museum in Belgium. Illustrated by images of this unparalleled collection, Tintin: The Art of Hergé provides a rare glimpse into Tintin and Hergé’s world. Previously unpublished drawings depict how the beloved characters were created and offer fresh commentary. Now, this popular book is available in paperback at an appealing price point.
This copy that I’ve reviewed is the soft cover edition; it seems the hard cover edition is much harder to come by these days. Regardless of the format, the contents are still well worth the price of the book, and this comes highly recommended.
