Tim Walker Pictures Book

I’ve come across Tim Walker’s work once or twice before but it was only after browsing through this book that the full gamut of the man’s photographic prowess dawned on me. These are the pictures of a photography maestro at work.

Tim Walker worked as an assistant for Richard Avedon in NY before launching his own career back home in UK at the age of 25, shooting an assignment for Vogue and has photographed for the British, Italian, and American editions ever since.

I felt my eyes were going to pop out of their sockets by the I reached the end of the book. His immaculate combination of great subject matter, framing, composition and incredible use of color are for the lack of a better word, mind-blowing. ( here appropriate credit must also be given to the slew of talented stylists, art and production designers, as well as any other creative collaborators involved. )

(above right) Numerous sketches and notes, as well as Polaroid proofs give us great insights into his thought process and creative approach, all of which I found to be incredibly inspiring.

Amazing, amazing work. At over 360 pages I had a hard time picking just a select few pieces to showcase. There are loads of other great pictures in the book.

At around 80 USD the book isn’t cheap, but I bit the bullet and bought it still because every time I look at the pictures it gives me heady inspiration to head out there and take some good pictures. And it’s a good source of learning material and reference. And it’s so darn pretty !

i am new to him, but his work looks stunning. his work is in stark contrast to many others i’ve seen recently; unlike Robert Doisneau, who it seems is incredible at capturing that perfect moment, finding all of his colors and lines in place and being able to recognize when to close his shutter, Tim Walker does sketches (from what i can see of this review), tests, and retests to find exactly the moment he wants to create. neither men give me the impression that they like to waste film.
